These are a just a few of the Christchurch and New Zealand organizations which have been a part of and benefitted from the relationship with Wuhan:

Hitlab NZ- The HITlab has reached agreements with the virtual reality centres of both Wuhan University and  Huazhong University of Science and Technology to facilitate student exchange, and engage in cooperative projects. The first person to come from HUST and do a scope for future student to the HITlab has been decided, ans is due to arrive in New Zealand very soon.

Canterbury Innovation Incubator (Cii)- In cooperation with NZTE, an analysis is underway regarding the possible benefits and feasibility of the exchange of incubator companies. Other possibilities deriving from this could include mutual incubator manager and small business trainer training, as well as courses for young entrepreneurs and business graduates.

Visual Pronunciation Software Ltd.- This software company based within Cii did a comprehensive market assessment in Wuhan, and as well as sourcing an agent to sell in Wuhan and in China, they are currently evaluating the possibility of opening an R&D facility in Wuhan.

University of Canterbury- UC has exchanged delegations at the highest level with Wuhan University and HUST. The most recent delegation saw members of UC’s computer science department, and Gateway Antarctica visit specific departments to follow up on previously scoped opportunities.

Centre for Continuing Education, University of Canterbury- This company continues to receive training groups from China, boosted in 2004 by 3 medium-term groups from the Wuhan Municipal Government. These groups have received training from both Canterbury and Lincoln Universities, as well as instruction and presentations from CCC, CDC, and Cii. The focus of these groups ranges from public sector management training to agriculture and animal husbandry.

Canterbury Development Corporation- The CDC has built a very solid relationship with the Wuhan Economic Commission after drafting the original strategy to establish a long-term relationship together early in 2004. The WEC hosted much of the Mayoral visit of June 2004.

Wuhan International Electronics and Machinery Exhibition- Two free booths were gifted to the CDC by the WEC for this exhibition in Wuhan in September 2004. One was used to promote an “Image of Christchurch and New Zealand”, and the other to showcase “New Technologies from New Zealand”. This exhibition was attended by tens of thousands of Wuhan locals, giving great exposure to Christchurch, NZ, and some new technologies from within Cii and HITlab. It was also a great opportunity for the CDC to promote number of its cluster activities, especially those relating to education, ICT and software, and neutraceuticals.

Antarctic Reseach- As part of a Ministry of Economic Development funded Regional Initiative, the CDC in coordination with a number of other organizations are developing a strategy to maximise the economic benefit to New Zealand from our presence in, and gateway position to Antarctica. Increasing international collaboration is seen to be a vital part of this strategy. In June 2004, An agreement was made between the University of Canterbury’s Gateway Antarctica and the Antarctic program of Wuhan University. Delegations have also been exchanged since then to promote and strengthen this collaboration.

Lincoln University- Lincoln has established a partnership with the Jiang Han University in Wuhan in 2003, and has hosted a number of research, science and technology groups, and given professional training to many more through the Centre for Continuing Education at University of Canterbury

Profile of New Zealand- New Zealand Trade and Enterprise has provided funding for a number of representatives to visit Wuhan, increasing their knowledge and context in a number of areas, as well as being effective in increasing the profile of New Zealand in Wuhan, and vice-versa.
