On the morning of 11 April, New Zealand Ambassador Tony Browne, Mayor Garry Moore, Prof Roy Sharp, Vice-Chancellor of University of Canterbury, and some others visited HUST Wuchang Branch. HUSTWB is planning to have its academic and administrative staff members trained in Christchurch, and is keen to have some joint programmes with Christchurch institutions. Some initial discussions were made during this visit and the prospect for further collaboration looks pretty good.
Tony and Garry made a speech on HUSTWB campus to an audience of 200 students. The speeches were very well acclaimed by the students, and the students came to understand New Zealand a lot better.

Christchurch Mayoral Visit to support CDIp Exhibition in Sister City April 2007
11 Apr 2007
The New Zealand Cultural Diplomacy International Programme (CDIP) was held in four cities in P. R. China this year to mark the 35th year of the normalization of diplomatic relationship between the two countries. Wuhan hosted the CDIP Exhibition between 11 April through 23 April 2007, next to Beijing but before Shanghai and Guangzhou. The 2007 CDIP Exhibition in China, managed by MCH in partnership with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, New Zealand Trade and Enterprise, and Tourism New Zealand, presents cultural activities in China for leveraging trade, tourism, science, education and diplomatic outcomes. The CDIP Exhibition in China is titled ‘New Zealand, New Thinking’.
To support the CDIP Exhibition and use the Exhibition to leverage more economic development opportunities for mutual benefits, Canterbury Development Corporation and Christchurch City Council jointly organized a Mayoral Delegation to visit Wuhan, Sister City of Christchurch in China. The Delegation, composed of 30 delegates, is headed by Mayor Garry Moore and Councillor Barry Corbett, with representatives featuring education, science & technology, business and trade as well. The mayoral visit has strengthened the already existent partnerships and forged a few more promising partnerships between the two cities.
On the evening of 11 April 2007, there was the Launch of CDIP Exhibition, and about 150 Christchurch business friends attended the function. During the function, Christchurch and Wuhan formally exchanged the pictures of the city gift to each other. Wuhan is going to present to Christchurch the replica of a chime bell which was excavated from a tomb dated back to about 2,500 years ago, and Christchurch will present to Wuhan a boulder of pounamu which symbolizes a long-term friendship between the people of the two cities.
The performance from the two New Zealand groups brought Maori culture to Wuhan and the audience were all quite impressed with it.
